Mental Health, Addiction and Retardation Organizations of America (MHAROA) is a 501(c)(3) organization designed to function as a "federation" in the Combined Federal Campaign. Our purpose is to assist our member nonprofits in the mental health field with their most persistentchallenge: funding.
We seek to develop new revenue sources for qualified service organizations by helping them participate more effectively in workplace giving campaigns.
Mental health agencies eligible for membership in this federation are assisting adults and/or children with any of a wide variety of mental illnesses (see sidebar), as well as the family and friends whose lives are also affected. The nonprofit organizationsthat join MHAROA are engaged in:
MHAROA works with eligible organizations to ensure that they meet the CFC's standards of fiscal accountability, governance, and programmatic impact. These standards are some of the most rigorous in the giving community and thus provide the basis for admission to the federation.
We bring together mental health professionals with experts in workplace fundraising. In particular, a number of our Directors and Advisors have played central roles for many years in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), the world's largest workplace giving campaign. In 2003, the CFC raised nearly $237 million from civilian, military and postal employees throughout the United States and abroad.
